She knelt, brushing away the grit. Her gloves trembled. It wasn't a gemstone. It looked like a rough sphere of granite, but the surface was shifting. Tiny plates of stone moved over one another like the scales of a pinecone, expanding and contracting in a slow, hypnotic breath.
The sensation was indescribable. It felt like being inside an earthquake. The Animroc pushed upward, phasing through the solid rock as if it were water, dragging Elara with it. The pressure was immense, the darkness total, but the violet light of the creature pulsed around her like a shield. animroc
The response came again, not as sound, but as a projection into her mind. It was a flash of imagery: magma surging through the earth, the birth of a volcano, the ecstasy of liquid fire. She knelt, brushing away the grit
She froze. She was standing in a ravine of hematite and red jasper. To her left, half-buried in a drift of grey slag, something pulsed with a faint, rhythmic violet light. It looked like a rough sphere of granite,
Then, she saw the glow.
Suddenly, the stone projected a feeling of intense alarm. The ground beneath Elara’s sleeping roll vibrated. The Animroc rolled away from the fire, nudging against the back wall of the overhang.
