With the soldiers closing in, Taran helps Murtagh carry Jamie and Claire to safety. Taran admits that the old debts are now paid and bids them farewell, warning Jamie that the Highlands are no longer safe — not from the British, and not from the shifting loyalties of their own people.
One day, while Claire is gathering herbs outside the cave, she is captured by two men from The Watch. They take her to their camp, where she meets their leader, (played by Gary Lewis). Taran is a hardened but not entirely unkind man. He questions Claire about her presence and her husband. She claims they are simple travelers, but Taran is suspicious. The episode ends with Claire, Murtagh, and the injured Jamie fleeing deeper into the wilderness, heading toward a rumored safe house.
