The pilot episode of Prison Break, titled "Pilot," sets the stage for a thrilling and suspenseful series. The episode introduces us to Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller), a brilliant engineer who gets himself incarcerated in Fox River State Penitentiary to break out his brother, Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell), who is on death row for a crime he claims not to have committed. In the final act, Michael finally breaks the news to Lincoln that he’s there to break him out. Lincoln’s reaction is perfect: disbelief, anger, and finally, exhausted laughter. "You’re crazy, little brother."

Inside the prison, Michael meets Lincoln, who is initially skeptical of his brother's intentions. Michael also meets other inmates, including Fernando Sucre (Amanda Schull), a Puerto Rican inmate who becomes an ally, and Theodore "T-Bag" Bagwell (Robert Knepber), a white supremacist who becomes a complex and conflicted character.

Why? His older brother, Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell), is on death row for a crime he didn’t commit. Michael’s plan isn’t to win an appeal; it’s to break Lincoln out from the inside.
