It was perfect. The tracks were crisp, shining gold against the green fiberglass substrate. It looked less like a homemade hack and more like something grown in a high-tech fab-lab.
She hit the Process button. The hard drive whirred, a sound like a dying insect. On screen, the red lines of the cutting path appeared. They were jagged. Misaligned. coppercam

Elara scrambled. She clamped the copper board onto the bed of Old Bess. The machine hummed to life, the spindle spinning up with a high-pitched whine. Usually, Elara had to babysit the machine, tweaking the feed rate, stopping it if the bit dug too deep. It was perfect
She soldered the components in place, her hands shaking slightly. She connected the battery. She hit the Process button
Elara was about to start over when a popup appeared on the screen. It wasn't a standard Windows error message. It was a simple command prompt, characteristic of the old Coppercam code.
