This beta eventually became Audition CS5.5 (Version 4), which launched in April 2011 to replace the discontinued Adobe Soundbooth. Key Features of the 2010 Era (Version 3.0)

Looking back at 2010, it was a "make or break" year for Adobe’s audio suite. Following the hiatus after version 3.0, Adobe skipped a beat to rewrite the program from the ground up for Mac and Windows compatibility.

Throughout 2010, Audition remained a Windows-only application.

The shifts that occurred in 2010 defined the modern DAW landscape. By moving to the model and adopting a cross-platform engine, Adobe shifted Audition from a niche recording tool to a vital part of the video post-production workflow.

The move to a new engine meant faster processing, though we famously lost some legacy features in the process.

The 2010 release (CS5.5) was the first version rebuilt to function natively on Mac and integrate tightly with Adobe Premiere Pro.

In June 2010, Adobe officially announced that Audition was finally coming to macOS. A public beta was released in Winter 2010 , marking the first time Mac users could experience the tool without a virtual machine.

Similar to Photoshop’s spot healing brush, this allowed for quick, automatic repairs of audio artifacts.
