as Hank Parsons: Sean’s resourceful stepfather and a former Navy codebreaker.
Critics are split. Variety called it “a noisy but fun B-movie with A-list effects,” while Empire said, “It lacks the Jules Verne charm but delivers on pure spectacle.”
Sixteen years after the groundbreaking 3D adventure that first took audiences below the Earth’s crust, Journey to the Center of the Earth 2 finally drills its way back onto the big screen. The sequel, officially titled Journey to the Center of the Earth 2: The Next Depths , arrives with a new generation of thrills, higher stakes, and a surprising twist: Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson, now all grown up) is the lead scientist on a mission to rescue his mentor from a previously undiscovered second layer of our planet.
The movie begins with Henry Bannon, a teenager who helped his grandfather James Bannon and Dr. Patricia Harper on their expedition to the center of the Earth. The group successfully escapes from the Earth's core, but not without leaving behind a mysterious anomaly that threatens to disrupt the Earth's ecosystem.
