Then we have the Mossbacher family. They are the embodiment of "money can’t buy happiness," though they certainly try. Nicole (Connie Britton) is a high-powered executive, and her husband Mark (Steve Zahn) is grappling with a health scare that he believes is a death sentence.

The series opens with a gripping hook: a flash-forward to seven days in the future, where a passenger named (played by Jake Lacy ) watches a "human remains" box being loaded onto a plane. This immediately establishes a murder mystery that looms over the entire premiere, as viewers meet the guests just a week prior to this tragedy. 2. Character Introductions & Central Conflicts

But the real tension lies with the teens. Sydney Sweeney’s Olivia and Brittany O’Grady’s Paula are the terrifying modern iteration of the "cool rich kid." They are performative in their wokeness, judgmental of their parents, and glued to their phones. The dynamic between the parents—Mark trying to bond with his son who clearly finds him pathetic—is excruciating to watch in the best way possible.

The episode centers around the characters' check-in and their initial experiences at the resort. Tanya, who is struggling with anxiety and loneliness, is immediately drawn to the resort's extravagance and the promise of relaxation. Meanwhile, the Siben family is dealing with their own issues, including their son's (Luke Malek) lack of enthusiasm for the trip.

When Shane complains about the room ("We specifically requested the Pineapple Suite"), Armand’s eyes flicker. He wants to drown Shane in the koi pond. Instead, he offers him a free bottle of champagne. This is the transactional nature of luxury: you pay $10,000 a night so you never have to see a poor person, but you still have to argue with management about linens.
