The "Sim Has Crashed" error in Assetto Corsa is a common but frustrating roadblock, especially when working with mods like the Custom Shaders Patch (CSP) or Traffic Planner. This error typically indicates a conflict between game files, mod configurations, or system drivers.

Some versions of Custom Shaders Patch (like 0.1.77 or 0.1.78) are known to be unstable for certain setups.

The crash can occur if the sim tries to spawn a traffic car you don't have installed.

Navigate to the specific track's folder and clear the contents of the AI folder (but don't delete the folder itself).

If the crash occurs specifically when using traffic tools, the issue is often related to data corruption or missing assets:

Steam Library -> Right-click Assetto Corsa -> Properties -> Installed Files -> Verify integrity of game files. This fixes corrupted vanilla Kunos data. It will not fix your mods, but it resets the core.

Deleting a lane that is already part of an intersection or area causes a crash.

Disable Custom Shaders Patch and Sol. Launch the game via the standard Kunos launcher. Drive the Ferrari 458 Italia at Magione. If it doesn't crash, the problem is your mods. If it does crash, the problem is your hardware/drivers.

Assetto Corsa uses the FMOD audio engine. If you use a USB headset, a DAC, or Bluetooth speakers, the audio device can "go to sleep" or change sample rates mid-race. When Windows tells AC, "The audio device is gone," AC has no protocol to pause and wait. It simply crashes.

CSP is the greatest mod in sim racing history. It adds rain, dynamic lighting, and particle effects that Kunos never dreamed of. However, CSP is a reverse-engineered hack. Every time you toggle "Adaptive Tyres" or "Neck FX," you are walking through a minefield.
