Flamenco Sketches Chords Site

This piece is a composition (credited to Miles Davis/Bill Evans). Unlike typical jazz standards, it has no fixed chord progression. Instead, it’s a sequence of five modes (scales) played in any order, for any length of time, with the rhythm section comping using specific chord voicings.

The "chords" in this piece are not functional harmony in the traditional sense (ii-V-I). Instead, they are specific scales derived from melodic minor and major keys. The form is cyclical. The pianist (Bill Evans on the original recording) plays a voicing to establish the mode, and the soloist improvises within that scale until they feel ready to move to the next. flamenco sketches chords
