This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a Structured Teaching Programme (STP) on knowledge regarding the prevention of childhood obesity among mothers of school-age children.
The study concludes that health education is a powerful tool in preventive pediatrics. The Structured Teaching Programme significantly improved the knowledge of mothers regarding childhood obesity. To combat the rising epidemic of lifestyle diseases, nursing professionals must regularly conduct such awareness programs in schools and community settings.
The findings revealed that in the pre-test, the majority of mothers (68.3%) had average knowledge, 21.7% had poor knowledge, and only 10% had good knowledge. Following the STP, the post-test scores improved significantly: 65% had good knowledge and 35% had average knowledge, with none remaining in the poor knowledge category. The mean pre-test knowledge score was $12.4 \pm 2.1$, which increased to $22.8 \pm 2.5$ in the post-test. The paired ‘t’ test showed a statistically significant difference ($t = 14.32, p < 0.05$). A significant association was found between pre-test knowledge scores and selected demographic variables such as education status and type of family. pediatric nursing by parul datta
