In simulation software (like Simulink or CANoe) or calibration tools (like INCA or Vector CANape), a signal is defined as a UINT16 (Unsigned Integer 16-bit).

ECU software complexity is rising. Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing is expensive. Model-in-the-loop (MIL) simulation using tools like Simulink allows early verification. However, traceability from requirements (often written in Word) to model components remains a challenge. We propose a method to embed requirement IDs from Word directly into the model.

Requirements are written in a Word table with columns:

Usually larger (3" x 4"). Better for visibility and adding logos.

In the context of an Engine Control Unit (ECU), data must be structured efficiently. A "Word" refers to a unit of data that is typically in length. This differs from a "Byte" (8 bits) or a "Double Word" (32 bits).
