After Lingaa (2014) underperformed, Ravikumar struggled to adapt to the new wave of Tamil cinema dominated by realism (Vetrimaaran), dark action (Lokesh Kanagaraj), and experimental storytelling. His later films like Jilla (with Vijay) worked mainly due to star power, not direction.
