When Papa Jupiter returns to finish the job, they blow up the RV and the family dog, Beast, mauls the villain. The casting is crucial here. Unlike the original, where the family felt a bit more like hippie drifters, this family is distinctly middle-class and slightly dysfunctional. Aaron Stanford as Doug is particularly noteworthy. He is introduced as a somewhat weak, slightly annoying liberal Democrat who drives a hybrid and clashes with his Republican father-in-law. The creatures, or "the Papa Jupiter's family", are well-designed and terrifying, with a convincingly grotesque appearance that will haunt your dreams. The special effects are impressive, and the gore is plentiful but not excessive. Meanwhile, back at the RV, the younger siblings,
